Aims of the course:
1. to familiarise students with the theoretical aspect of the rules of professional ethics;
2. to familiarise students with the basic values, which a social worker should follow in his/her work;
3. to enable students to gain theoretical knowledge, which will be a tool for the interpretation of people behaviour and the assessment of social phenomena;
4. by broadening knowledge of ideological problems students are going to acquire the skills of intellectual development;
5. to sensitise students to the moral values and dignity of the human person.

Learning outcomes
After passing the subject, a student:
1. knows social rules and norms; knows about basic rules and norms which organise social structures and institutions, especially in terms of the model of social policy and social security; knows about social welfare beneficiaries’ rights.
2. understands the importance of individual entrepreneurship in working with the clients of the social welfare centre and knows how to develop individual entrepreneurship.
3. properly uses normative systems, legal regulations, legal norms and rules of social worker’s professional ethics, including in particular:
a/ the provision of assistance to anyone who is in a difficult situation and anyone who asks for help;
b/ respect for the rights and personal dignity of these people;
c/ he/she stands up for the interests of people who ask for help.
d/ he/she strengthens self-reliance of people who use social help and prevents them from being dependent on social help.
4. acknowledges and analyses the ethical dilemmas of social work.
5. is able to analyse her/his actions and indicate the possible weak spots which should be modified before the next operation.
6. performs a self-assessment of her/his competence and hones her/his skills.
7. properly organises activity and uses rules of social worker’s professional ethics.
8. is convinced of the importance of professionalism.
