Surgery, Operating Room, and Surgical Nursing I – simulated exercises
The exercises aim to prepare students to care for the surgical patient, to acquire knowledge about diseases and injuries requiring surgical treatment, and to learn the basics of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
The scope and practical tasks include:
1. Types and principles of ordering diagnostic tests for the surgical patient.
2. Care of patients with a stoma (abdominal fistula, urostomy) – stoma care, patient education, preparation for self-care.
3. Wound care and infection risk in the surgical ward – wound classification, stages of healing, infection prevention, preparation of the dressing table.
4. Performing dressings – clean and infected wounds, drain management, wound irrigation.
5. Care of patients with a gastrostomy and those receiving parenteral nutrition – planning and implementing the nursing process.
6. Individualised care in the operating theatre – principles of patient positioning on the operating table, washing, disinfection, and draping of the surgical field, prevention of perioperative hypothermia.
7. Patient education in the perioperative period – breathing exercises, thrombosis prevention, mobilisation, wound stabilisation.
Location: Medical Simulation Center ANS in Piła
Organisational requirements: medical clothing (top and trousers), clean medical or sports footwear, ID badge.
