EXERCISES IN SIMULATED CONDITIONS (Low Fidelity)
1. Discussion of health and safety rules, procedures, and regulations in force at the Medical Simulation Center (MSC), and workstation training. Introduction to the course syllabus and assessment criteria. Waste segregation. Elements of the nursing process.
2. Principles of asepsis and antisepsis in nursing practice – hygienic hand washing, disinfection, and anti-decubitus procedures.
3. Changing personal and bed linen for patients. Full-body hygiene and partial care of bedridden patients. Hygiene procedures for children and adults – skin care, care of mucous membranes, therapeutic baths.
4. Activities ensuring hygiene maintenance for patients with urinary and fecal elimination difficulties.
5. Procedures ensuring personal hygiene for dependents. Patient transfer. Pressure ulcer risk assessment and prevention – assessment scales and practical aspects of prevention.
6. Methods, techniques, and principles of wound dressing. Objectives of bandaging, types of bandages. Bandaging of selected body parts.
7. Participation of nurses in diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures. Application of physical treatments for pain relief.
8. Therapeutic procedures within the lower gastrointestinal tract (rectal procedures): rectal tubes, enemas, oil enemas, rectal drops. 2. Assistance with feeding: oral feeding, enteral feeding, PEG feeding. 3. Catheterization and bladder irrigation in women. Monitoring urination, bowel movement collection, fluid balance. 4. Administering oral medications, skin and mucosal drugs. 5. Administering enemas. 6. Bedridden patient hygiene.
9. Measurement of basic vital signs: circumference, saturation, peak expiratory flow, anthropometric measurements (body mass, height, BMI, waist-hip ratio, WHR, WHtR, body fat percentage). Documentation in nursing: medical orders, nurse’s orders, fever charts. Recordkeeping in patient files.
10. Insertion of a nasogastric tube, monitoring its placement and patency, and PEG replacement. Guidelines for prescribing special nutritional preparations.
11. Respiratory therapy and postural drainage – significance and techniques. Inhalation therapy and upper airway care – techniques in nursing practice. Use of oxygen therapy: oxygen delivery methods and monitoring in patient care. Use of medical gases, oxygen cylinders, and concentrators. Rubbing techniques, compresses, and passive and active exercises – importance in rehabilitation.
12. Performing skin tests and allergy tests – technique, interpretation of results, and patient safety.
13. Oral cavity irrigation techniques, care of the throat, eyes, ears, stomach, bladder, and stoma.
14. Applying surgical clothing – technique and aseptic principles. Wound dressing – application, changing, and removal in accordance with aseptic standards. Suture removal – technique, guidelines, and effectiveness. Preparing surgical tools for sterilization and assessment of their effectiveness.
15. Care of intestinal and urinary fistulas – technique for placement and replacement of stoma appliances. Inserting and removing peripheral IV catheters and monitoring the insertion site.
16. Blood glucose, ketone, and cholesterol monitoring – test strip technique.
17. Documentation and analysis of fluid balance – its significance in nursing care.
18. Measurement of vital signs – temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, saturation. Assessment of cardiorespiratory fitness – central and peripheral blood pressure measurement, peak expiratory flow. Patient monitoring – analysis and interpretation of results.
19. Anthropometric measurements – assessment of BMI, WHR, WHtR and their significance in clinical practice.
20. Collecting patient health status data – interview, observation, physical examination, and documentation. Application of nursing methods in patient care – selection and practical implementation.
