COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course and confirmation of achieving the intended learning outcomes, the student:
1. Knows and understands the importance of psychological, socio-cultural, and philosophical determinants and processes of human development in designing processes of education, teaching, learning, and socialization.
2. Possesses structured, in-depth knowledge of the functioning of major educational environments and their dependence on the structure and function of the ducational system, drawing from pedagogy and related disciplines. This knowledge is oriented toward practical applications in selected areas of pedagogical activity, particularly in the fields of care and upbringing, pedagogical therapy, support for the development of children and youth, and rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities.
3. Can reflectively and critically apply theoretical knowledge, and construct well-developed oral and written statements on various pedagogical issues, particularly within the scope of educational theory.
4. Appreciates the significance of educational theory for personal development and for establishing proper relationships within social environments.
COURSE CONTENT RELATED TO LEARNING OUTCOMES
Lecture
1. Origins and evolution of educational theory (general, mid-range, and empirical theories). Educational theory as a pedagogical discipline. General characteristics of educational theories.
2. History of educational theory. Perspectives in educational theory. The essence of the educational process and its properties. Structure of the educational process. Educational situations—their nature and structure.
3. The concept of education. Introductory reflections on education. Education as direct or indirect influence. The personalist, social, and cultural tasks of education.
4. Psychological, sociological, and philosophical foundations of education. Research orientations in educational theory. Adaptive versus emancipatory education (doctrinal and practical differences). Education from the perspective of the behaviorist theory. Education from the perspective of the humanistic theory. Education from the perspective of the psychosocial theory.
5. Education and socialization. Features of education. Education and care. Values as a foundation of education. Definition of values and their modes of existence. Classification of values. The role of values in education. Morality as a fundamental category legitimizing education.
