COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course and confirmation of achieving the intended learning outcomes, the student:
1. Knows and understands the concept of verbal and non-verbal communication.
2. Knows and understands issues related to the practice of public speaking and academic writing.
3. Knows and understands the principles of verbal ethics and the etiquette of traditional and electronic correspondence.
4. Knows and understands linguistic correctness and fluency.
5. Is able to communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff in kindergartens and schools.
6. Is able to use the Polish language correctly.
7. Is prepared to uphold a high standard of speech and communication in their work in kindergarten and school, as well as beyond.
CURRICULUM CONTENT REFERENCED TO LEARNING OUTCOMES
Lecture:
1. The importance of communication. Elements of the communication process. Verbal and non-verbal communication. Goals, functions, and basic models of communication.
2. Establishing contact – basic skills (first impression, active listening, paraphrasing, clarifying, giving feedback, empathic listening).
3. Communication barriers and ways to overcome them; selected techniques of assertive behavior.
4. Communication in conflict situations; methods for achieving compromise.
5. Etiquette and ethics. Savoir-vivre in the context of other cultural norms.
Self-study:
1. Preparation for classes (reading literature)
2. Preparation for course credit (presentation, essay)
3. Preparation of a self-study paper
