LEARNING OUTCOMES
Upon completion of the course and confirmation of the expected learning outcomes, the student:
1. Possesses in-depth and detailed knowledge in the field of the philosophy of education and pedagogical axiology and is able to relate it to the personal and integral development of the child or pupil; has knowledge of educational theories and their modern forms of implementation, with particular emphasis on the philosophical and ethical foundations of education and upbringing.
2. Has knowledge of contemporary trends in philosophical thinking about education. Is able to critically and reflectively analyze selected models of education and school models and their implementation, with particular consideration of contemporary problems of education and upbringing in a globalized world.
3. Has the ability to critically analyze contemporary educational processes in both local and global perspectives, using newly acquired knowledge about educational development directions in Poland and globally, as well as their ethical and philosophical contexts.
4. Is aware of moral issues and ethical dilemmas related to pedagogical work and independently seeks optimal solutions in practical activity that align with the principles of ethics.
COURSE CONTENT LINKED TO LEARNING OUTCOMES
Lectures:
1. Education – pedagogy – philosophy – ethics of values – conceptual system. Education or pedagogy. The role of the philosophy of education. The human being and common-sense, religious, scientific, and philosophical thinking. The human and their subjectivity in education from the perspective of philosophers.
2. Characteristics of the philosophy of education as a philosophical sub-discipline located at the intersection of social philosophy, ethics, anthropology, and pedagogy. Socio-political philosophy and the social functions of education.
3. Ethical challenges for educators and teachers in consumer culture. Ethics-based education focused on cooperation in the context of neoliberal transformations. Education in a democratic/capitalist/consumer society.
4. Ontological and axiological foundations of education considered the intellectual basis of education in European culture. The problem of the relationship between pedagogy and philosophy. The human and philosophy. Philosophical anthropology.
5. Neoliberal discourse and artistic, philosophical, and ethical education. Humanistic education in neoliberal culture. Values promoted in neoliberal culture. Ethical poverty of neoliberalism.
