Fundamentals of Emergency Medical Services ERASMUS>FOEMS
The course familiarizes students with the legal basis, principles of organization, functioning and financing of the State Medical Rescue (SMA) system in Poland. It provides knowledge on basic and advanced life-saving procedures, principles of qualified first aid, as well as on handling patients in emergencies, including the segregation of victims.
Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE – A STUDENT KNOWS AND UNDERSTANDS:
1. first aid principles and algorithms of resuscitation procedures in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS),
2. the principles of organisation and functioning of the National Medical Rescue System,
3. procedures of medical protection in mass events, catastrophes and other special situations
SKILLS – A STUDENT IS ABLE TO:
1. give first aid in life threatening situations,
2. temporarily stabilize fractures, sprains and twists of bones and prepare the patient for transport
3. temporarily stop bleeding and haemorrhage,
4. perform basic resuscitation procedures on adults and children and use automated external defibrillator (AED) and non-instrumental airway management and instrumental airway management with the use of available supraglottic devices,
SOCIAL SKILLS – A STUDENT IS READY TO:
1. respect patients' rights,
2. consult experts in case of difficulties in solving a problem on one's own,
3. anticipate and consider factors that affect their own and the patient's reactions.
