Electric lighting ERASMUS>ELE15
The course provides fundamental knowledge of lighting engineering, photometry, colorimetry and visual perception. Students examine the properties and classifications of modern light sources, principles of luminaire selection and application, and methods of controlling lighting for comfort and energy efficiency. Practical work develops skills in reading catalog data, using lighting-design software (Dialux/Relux), measuring illumination levels and preparing compliant lighting projects for interior and outdoor spaces. The syllabus also addresses photobiological effects of optical radiation, architectural illumination basics and contemporary control protocols such as DALI, DMX and Zigbee.
Intended learning outcomes:
- Student evaluates a light source on the basis of its catalog parameters, considering photo-electrical and practical properties.
- Student selects an optimal light source and luminaire for a given application.
- Student explains the effects of optical radiation in the UV–VIS–IR range and discusses special applications (disinfection, curing, medical uses, etc.).
- Student chooses appropriate instruments, measures illumination and assesses conformity of a lighting system with standards.
- Student proposes alternative lighting solutions to reduce energy consumption (e.g., controls, source selection) while maintaining normative compliance.
- Student correctly assembles all elements of a lighting system (ballast, ignitor, choke, controller, source).
- Student designs a lighting project with calculations and visualisation in Dialux that meets current standards for the intended space.
- Student (again) is able to recommend the most suitable light source and luminaire for specific applications.
