COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course examines the functioning of the open economy and international exchange of goods, services, and production factors. It covers fundamental principles of foreign trade, international investment flows, and modern economic policy instruments used by states in a globalized world.
CONTENT:
1. Theories of international trade, International trade policy instruments.
2. Exchange rates and balance of payments.
3. International mobility of labor and capital.
4. Economic integration and globalization, International organizations (WTO, IMF, WB).
5. Presentation, Final exam.
Goals and objectives:
1. Understand mechanisms of international exchange and trade;
2. Identify challenges in policy-making in an open economy;
3. Analyze the impact of global economic trends on domestic markets.
Learning outcomes and assessment:
- Understands key concepts of international trade – assignments, test;
- Analyzes data on exchange and investment flows – written task;
- Explains the role of international institutions – oral presentation;
- Applies knowledge to evaluate trade policy – final exam.
Evaluation criteria:
Attendance and participation – 10%
Assignments and presentations – 20%
Final exam – 70%
