Aims of the Course:
To introduce students to the fundamentals of numerical methods. To develop practical skills in using spreadsheet software for solving engineering problems numerically. To consolidate understanding of key numerical algorithms.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Introduction to numerical analysis
2. Numerical solution of nonlinear equations
3. Numerical integration techniques
4. Numerical solution of systems of linear equations
5. Approximation and interpolation methods
6. Classical finite difference method
7. Approximate methods for solving mechanical problems – Ritz method and weighted residual methods
